The journey of JUOL Living began not in a factory, but in a simple observation common across New Zealand: high-quality furniture that truly elevates a home often comes with a prohibitive price tag.
For the founder, this observation was deeply personal. Having arrived in New Zealand over a decade ago as an international student and now a proud New Kiwi, I quickly came to understand the unique challenges and values of settling here. Building a beautiful, comfortable, and well-styled home felt like an aspiration reserved only for those with unlimited budgets.
We believed this was wrong. We believed that everyone in New Zealand deserves to furnish their space with pieces that are not only stylish and contemporary but are also built to last—without having to compromise their financial peace.
The Problem We Solved: The Middleman Markup
In the traditional furniture industry, products pass through a long chain: manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, distributors, and then retailers. Every step adds significant markup, driving up the final price paid by the customer.
